Week 7 Origination

This week we started reviewing chapter 6 "Content" in Laws of Simplicity then answered the following questions;

1.    What does the word ENTROPY mean and why is this relevant?
Entropy is the natural decline of order, impulse to fill clean and cleared area. The relevance is that the blank space is not nothing but instead it is something that emphasizes the detail.

2.    If you are attuned to everything around you, does it help you deal with what is in front of you and why or why not?

Yes because you see the importance of everything instead of the immediate relevance of the first thing you see. If you are focused on one thing you lose sight of other things that may be important around you and could affect the design process and final outcome.

3.    How is this different from FOCUS?

Focus concentrates on the obvious area and loses sight of the background. This should be done after the big picture is considered and the important links are identified.

4.    Being “comfortably lost”is a balance between what 2 feelings?

Exhilarating
Uncertainty

5.    Describe a recent scenario when you found yourself to be “comfortably lost”. Did you enjoy the sensation?

The only thing I can think of is when I had to do an art project of a collage. I have the criteria and Internet to see examples but nervous of what direction to take with it. Once I started every little section I finished started new fear of not wanting to spoil the good work I already done and where to continue on from there. Then researching a technique would put me back on track

6.    If you couldn’t hold back the urge to write on the “don’t write on this page” page – what would you write?

Why cant I write on this?
Hello
Different shapes

After the quiz we reviewed what we learned about Edward de Bono's 6 Thinking hats. We then had to answer these questions;

Thinking Game – Lateral Thinking DISCUSSION
Edward de Bono’s “6 Thinking Hats”

Which HAT best represents your group?

I think our groups thinking would fall under the “Green Hat”.
• Why?
Green hat represents creativity and growth and when our group tackles problems we always consider how we can improve it or make it more appealing.

• Describe an Exhibition Group meeting where you may adopt the BLACK hat
Maybe half way through there should be a meeting where we can look at what areas are behind, what we need to sacrifice to make our deadlines, and what needs to change in our advertising that it may be lacking.

• In your blog write 6 labelled paragraphs on your group’s progress to date, using each of the 6 hats as a perspective.

Blue Hat     –  Timelines need to be outlined and put up for everyone to know where they are. Advertising ideas need to be selected and expanded on.

Green Hat  – Many creative and clear communicated designs are being made for the banner. Many names were suggested to represent our creativity and the centenary and 102 has been decided on.

Red Hat      – There is becoming more trust and closeness in our group from bonding sessions in our other classes which is helping us feel comfortable analysing  and critiquing each others designs.

Black Hat   – Seem to be falling behind schedule. No strong decisions are being made about the “look and feel” we want to perceive in our advertisement. Communications are lacking between the groups.

Yellow Hat – Many ideas and enthusiasm are being contributed by everyone. Within the group there is good communication and team work happening.

White Hat – A branding design needs to be decided on the Monday 12th to allow 2 weeks to design the advertisement materials and invitations, 2 weeks printing time and 2 weeks distribution.

We also took a look at a video that demonstrated the practicality and usefulness of  content and simplicity when keeping in mind the periphery.

This video was interesting to see how he took all the relevant information and simplified it to concentrate on what was important whilst still paying attention the other contributing factors.

  1. Great post.

    Grammar: "exhilarating" is not a feeling - the word you are looking for is "exhilaration".

    Your observations on the hats are good - insightful.
    As usual - an excellent post addressing everything required.
