Week 12 Collaboration

Group Exercise - DISCUSSION
Reviewing
Discuss these questions in relation to a group creating a design in collaboration

01 – What are the 3 best things about your efforts for this years exhibition?

Time management, I have really surprised myself with getting things done to set time limits and have not had to rush to get things done.

Team work, I have been able to work in a team and accept constructive criticism better

Originality, I am surprised I stayed with an original idea even though it scared me and gave me lots of obstacles.

02 – Did you manage time well?

Yes I have complete things on time and not feeling rushed or worried.

03 – Did you manage materials well i.e. test prototypes?

Yes, which surprised me because I was very daunted at the beginning getting the first prototype done. Made the decision to take my time and put a lot of effort into the prototype so I could just add to it as my final product.

04 – Have you researched installation methods?

Only a little bit, I need to have a pair of nails in the wall to hang my box frames and will need to get hold of a plinth. As for lighting haven’t really looked into it.

05 – Have you made a shortlist of the essentials for the last WEEK?

No, but lighting is one thing on my mind for “to-do”

06 – Have you made a shortlist of the essentials for the last DAY?

I am hoping everything is set up and ready to go before the last day so I don’t have to do anything because I have an operation the day before so I don’t want to have to organize anything if maybe I haven’t recovered so I have given myself earlier dead lines.

Blog Exercise – Using Failure

In regard to creative collaboration & the exhibition:
Discuss these questions - write a paragraph on each and use examples
1 . List and describe 2 areas of failure in your preparation for Ten Squared

Creating a logo, even though I had designs they didn’t reflect our exhibition well. I was really disappointed in my designs.

Designing invitation, I tried to design one but it didn’t appeal to anyone and when I tried to help create a different one we voted on to save time I ended up wasting more time because I had it at the wrong dimensions.

2. Describe how you could realistically improve on this next time you exhibit

Try brainstorm ideas before I just build on one idea and fixate on a design that doesn’t meet the brief.

When creating the layout ensure print mode, art-board dimensions and graphic are all the right size and resolution.

This is a photo of the final outcome of the front and back of the invitation for the exhibition.

Week 12 Origination

Group Project

PART 1: Group Research (20 mins)
• Using YouTube choose one video for EACH of the concepts below
1. Communication Methods
2. Emerging Technologies
3. Idea adaptation

• PART 2: Group presentations: (25 mins)
Each video must be prefaced by a verbal explanation of why the chosen clips
demonstrate the research topics above

Here is the brain storming we did as a class on the topics after each presentation with a link to each of the youTube clips we watched.

Idea Adaptation

The group selected a video that didn’t really connect well as to how we could implement it into the exhibition but they did demonstrate how experts have modified the ladder to make it safer and universal.

Week 11 Origination

Reading Quiz

Answer the following questions as succinctly as possible in your own words
10 mins: Cut & paste into your blog and start answers / 10 mins: Open discussion

1. What does Maeda call the 3 keys?

  • Away
  • Open
  • Power
2. Describe how you have used these in your work towards 10 squared? Give at least one example of each key.

AWAY – hide the construction and time and frustration of building the model house

OPEN – Displaying my love for Timor by the topic of my art being Timor and displaying my expressions and design ideas that are still broadening and growing.

POWER – to simplify my construction process I changed from using paddle-pop sticks to sheet of ply wood. I have reduced amount of time and materials that would be needed to build it which in turn simplified the look of the model.

3. Describe an incident in the production of 10 Squared where technology has been an enabler. and another where it has been a disabler!

The share folder on the Mudlark drive has helped us share lists of ideas or important details about the exhibition.

Emails have circulated with sponsorship forms to all facilities but even though the idea and request is sent people ignore because they don’t have someone in person coming up to them and telling them they are required to call sponsors. Everyone just assumes someone else will do it because the email is sent to everyone.

4. At this stage in the exhibition process you are all working on some element or process for the big event. List 3 things (in your current project) that you could take away to simplify and one thing you could add for meaning.
  •  Could take away the 4 duplicates of the same image and use one and add a bigger sign of the title Timor Leste
  • Take away my large model of Timor house and use the smaller one with a background image of Timor’s mountains to put the house in its ideal environment.
  • Instead of using paddle-pop sticks to build my house use sheets of ply-wood to make the overall look more simplistic.
Homework:

Describe your contribution to the exhibition in relation to TWO of the laws.

ORGANISE – applied the SLIP principle when trying to figure out which sponsors to contact first and ones that were close by location for easy distribution
TIME - I have spent a lot of time with Te rounding up sponsors
